EXISTENTIAL; BOREDOM; B.B. KING

B.B. King sums it up: The thrill is gone.

I'm sick and tired of drifting, goddamnit. I have drifted along in life for the last 14 fucking years. What the hell is the meaning of life? Where in tarnation is my passion for life? I like to say that I have a passion for writing and for creativity, but oftentimes I find myself peering blankly at the monitor of the computer and thinking to myself, Yeah, nothing's coming. If I'm such a fucking "writer," I would think that I would have stories bubbling up constantly. I'm like a goddamned blank slate. No. Scratch that. I'm like a slate that had writing on it but was erased: There's remnants of something up there...but I can't read it.

Also, why is it that I am a veritable mute, sometimes? How the hell does one pick up the art of conversation? I'm fucking boring, sometimes, and I'm goddamned sick of it.

In the past--now over seven months ago--I would have dealt with the fucking boredom with swift justice: Hammered the Beast o' Boredom with a beer or twelve. That's...not an option any longer. Is there a store out there that sells Passion?

Motherfucking malaise. Motherfucking morass. More ass? I wish. ;-)

On an unrelated note, I have a question for you Cyberites, many of whom are women: What's a good thing to do for a date? I had a date planned for Saturday--Tiger game--but it's sold out, and now I'm at a complete loss of something to suggest instead. We've met for coffee, gone bowling and had dinner. You would think that it would be relatively easy to come up with something to do. Dinner and a movie? Maybe. Anyone have any suggestions out there?

Signed,
Abner Arbuckle

Dinner and a movie is always a winner. Simple and classic... if you get the weather why not try horse back riding? that's fun. you could always pack a picnic or something as well.

Apparently people bond better when the take part in some kind of activity together. Not that kind of activity Adam, get your mind out the gutter :)....

Thanks, Laura. =o) Good idea. Horse-back riding sounds kinda fun, actually. I'm a-gonna look in to it.

Oh...and my mind is *always* in the gutter. :-P

Take her too some really arty (and expensive)theatre play (where you have to dress in fine clothes of course) and enjoy the two of you hating the show together... that works!

Is this the woman with this dog you posted about a while ago?

Whatever

Go Adam! Go Adam!

Two words: Mini Golf.

It's fun. You can make up your own rules like every putt must bank off one of the boards or every other putt must be with left-handed. Stuff like that.

Hey, it's a better suggestion than beer, cheeze doodles and porn.

Corwin: Naw, it's someone else. I'll have to keep the play idea in mind. =o)

Jay: That's something that I suggested to her. I think it's a good idea. Maybe I could incorporate the cheeze doodles and porn into the game? ;-) Plus, she's competitive and she wants to beat me badly after I blanked her in bowling and darts. :-O

Queenie: The zoo's not corny at all. I love animals and she does, too. I think that's a great idea. Thanks! =o) (Let's hope that we don't see a baboon pleasuring himself, though.) ;-)

Damn...I think I'm on the same ride. How do I get off this thing?

Dating....hmmm....why not ask her what she likes to do? I hope she isn't a "whatever is fine with you"--that will suck. Not literally of course.

Some good date suggestions here!

Most everyone I know has trouble with conversation, or at least thinks they do. Sometimes it flows, sometimes it stutters. Big deal. You don't have to be witty or entertaining or talking all the time.

For writing: butane, druthers, impetus, jackhammer, moleskin, roam, siphon, tapestry, trombone, willow

You know what to do.

I was going to suggest mini golf, but Jay beat me to it ;0). But, I do have a backup...go for a hike to somewhere interesting (a historic site, swimming hole, scenic spot) and have a picnic lunch. My favorite date/non-date was a hike to some caves that run underneath a river. We had parked one of the cars near the exit so we went through the caves and then had lunch and swam.

hmm We know you're an athletic person A.... So why not see if she has a matching pair of rollerblades? A nice day at the park might be fun. The picnic would translate to there also. Or you could find a little cafe or diner in the vacinity.

As for the other business, join the club. Im older than you and I still feel the same way. Like Im floating. Like I dont know what Im going to be when I grow up. Like I should be doing more. And when Im not hanging behind these keys Im a conversational illiterate. I hate parties because I feel like everyone else belongs and Im just there.

Wow! Thanks for the outpouring, folks! I really appreciate it! =o) Since I'm technically at work right now, I don't have time to answer all individually, but I will later.

Thanks again. MUCH appreciated.

Nighthawk: She is into Buddhism, so she *is* kinda a "what will be will be" person.

Melmac: Sage words. I *do* try to be witty and entertaining at all times. ALL times. It's...exhausting. I'll work on it. Oh! And thanks for the words...this should be a good one.

Lil Miss: Hiking is always good. We started to go on a hike a few weeks ago but ended up sitting at the picnic table and jabberin for a couple hours. That, for me, is an eternity! :-P But it was good.

Terry: I already asked her about the Rollerblades--she doesn't have any--but I do plan to beat her ass in basketball sometimes soon. ;-)

I agree with Jay - a man after my own heart! I LOVE playing mini golf on a date! It's fun, and you can show off your great skills (which you DO posess, correct?) ;-)

I do, indeed, Missile. =o) I'll ask her next time I talk with her.

Dinner and a movie has definitely been done a few times last time I checked. I would suggest finding out her interests and roll forward from there. If there's something that stands out that you can get creative with, go for it bud.

In other words, some of my friends who date always reply when asked what they are going to do as:

"You know, the dinner and movie thing" aka SOS.

Have fun.

Thanks, Noc. Yeah, the "dinner and a movie" is so damned cliched, it puffs up dust when uttered. I've got a few things that I'm angling towards.

A few other people have said it, but Mini-Golf is the BEST EVAAA. Seriously. And I'd LOVE if a guy took me to the zoo. Seriously.

As for the rest of the post... It's funny that I read this today, because I just sent my bff an e-mail about how I don't have as much control over my life as an adult person should. Every single thing I do or think should be a deliberate, conscious action... I shouldn't be sitting here wasting away. Wasting my time. I don't know. I can't explain it. I guess I'm like the caveman on the car insurance commercial... I'm having an existential meltdown. Ha. :) I need to study philosophy. My brain... It needs enriching.

Oh, and could I say "seriously" one more time, because I don't think you realize the extent of my seriousness.

UGH.

Kristina: I think we all as human beings have "existential meltdowns." I like the phrasing, by the way. =o) I think that very few people are lucky enough to point their internal compass towards their passion and reach their own Promised Land. The rest of us hobble along...hopefully we find it eventually.

And, yeah, we're going to the zoo on Saturday, probably with her 4- and 5-year-old nephews in tow. It should be fun. I'll take snapshotz.

Oh. And i could tell that you were serious, KId. The screen virtually *driiiiiipped* with :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/s.
